The "Brit a Day" series

What does a months-long parade of attractive British men have to do with fiction, you might well ask? These gentlemen have inspired some lovely scenes, part of the life I live in my head. Over time, some of these scenes reach out to one another and begin to form a story. For the present, each one of these pictures provides a writing prompt for me, a way to keep me writing with a sense of passion and narrative, even when the stories are not yet fully formed.

A Brit a Day [#1236]

Some days, I don't need to say anything here on this blog--the pictures do all the talking.

A Brit a Day [#1208]

Matt Smith still has some surprises in store for us with the doctor's Christmas special.  See a fun gallery of behind-the-scenes shots here:

PS--can I please have that coat when you're finished with it?

A Brit a Day [#1200]

Today is ABAD's 1200th post, and more importantly, my elder child's first day of college.  A couple of years ago, she cosplayed as Idris, the 'Doctor's Wife', for Comic-con--she was the best Idris anyone had ever seen.  To commemorate, here's some Doctor Who 50th anniversary art from this year's Comic-con program.

The best and the worst thing about being a Doctor Who fan right now:  it hurts a bit.

A Brit a Day [#1180]

I love this artist I just found on the Japanese artists' site pixiv, Shimizu.  I love everything about their style right down to the patina on the sketchbook.  You'll love it too, especially if you are a fan of Top Gear, Doctor Who, Sherlock...I saw at least one great sketch of Tom Hiddleston as well.  Check it out--Shimizu's work can be found here--

I'm not sure how far you can get without creating an account.  I did, and it was worth it.

A Brit a Day [#1173]

[The art is not mine.  I found it on Tumblr.]

Today is my daughter's 18th birthday.  I remember what an influence the book 'The Little Prince' was for me around that age.  Plus, my daughter loves the history of Europe in the second world war, and the book is essentially a study of the heart of an exiled poet.  Says Wikipedia,

Saint-Exupéry, a laureate of several of France's highest literary awards and a reserve military pilot at the start of the Second World War, wrote and illustrated the manuscript while exiled in the United States after the Fall of France. He had travelled there on a personal mission to persuade its government to quickly enter the war against Nazi Germany. In the midst of personal upheavals and failing health he produced almost half of the writings he would be remembered for, including a tender tale of loneliness, friendship, love and loss, in the form of a young prince fallen to Earth.

I will make sure she reads it.  But for today's post, what could be a more fitting piece of fan art than The Doctor as The Little Prince?

A Brit a Day [#1167]

Oh, Matt. My heart is breaking a little bit each day, I'm going to miss him so much.  I've never wanted so much to stall the coming of Christmas.

A Brit a Day [#1153]

I met the incredible Alicexz at Anime Expo last week!  I think this may be my favorite thing that she's ever done, and it just happens to be of Matt Smith.

I bought a print of this beauty below directly from her, thereby circumnavigating the BBC who've licensed it! Let's hear it for negating the middle man!

A Brit a Day [#1139]

Not happy about My Doctor retiring, but I wish him all the best.

[This is a very large picture, by the way.  Click, then open in another tab.  If it posts correctly, the original should be over 5000 pixels wide.]

The addition of Clara to the world of the Doctor makes the past losses of beloved characters a little easier to bear.

Happy birthday [yesterday], Henry Ian Cusick! Just a suggestion for future endeavors that I copped from Tumblr.  All credit to the artist[s].

A Brit a Day [#1068]

I found this on Tumblr.  I hope this is a real work of stained glass on display somewhere and not just a computer simulation, because it is magnificent.

A Brit a Day [#1058]

This wonderful gif is from Casteil on Tumblr, and I love it because I just watched 'The Snowmen' and 'The Bells of St. John' back to back.  Make sure you check out Farbenfrei's magnificent artwork based on the 3-minute prequel here.

A Brit a Day [#1055]

Doctor who returns to American cable Saturday night, and I realize that I have some catching up to do before the episode airs.  I haven't seen the Christmas special yet, and I didn't know that Jenna-Louise Coleman was in it until I read about it on Wikipedia.  Among other things, the article on 'The Snowmen' had this to say about her--

This episode marks the return of Jenna-Louise Coleman, who previously appeared in the series 7 opener, "Asylum of the Daleks". Coleman was cast because of her chemistry with Matt Smith, and especially because she was able to talk faster than him.

Excellent!  Can't wait for the explosions in the chem lab!

A Brit a Day [#1013]

I had Idris, the soul of the Tardis, in my very own bathroom during Comic Con 2011.  Good luck to all you first timers trying to get CCI 2013 passes this weekend.
