The "Brit a Day" series

What does a months-long parade of attractive British men have to do with fiction, you might well ask? These gentlemen have inspired some lovely scenes, part of the life I live in my head. Over time, some of these scenes reach out to one another and begin to form a story. For the present, each one of these pictures provides a writing prompt for me, a way to keep me writing with a sense of passion and narrative, even when the stories are not yet fully formed.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Speaking of Fenrir Grayback, meet Fenrir The Rat. He belongs to the splendid photographer Diane from Deviant Art. I must confess, Fenrir may even be cuter than our pets Whitney and Morkey--certainly, at least, better trained. We haven't been able to get a good pic of our girls yet, so Fenrir will step in here to wish you a pleasant holiday weekend from all our ratkind.

A Brit a Day [#284]

This post is for Thursday. Happy Thanksgiving, y'all! I'm taking off for a week to visit my mom. So I'll see you when I get back.

I once theorized that every British actor who was known to America would end up being cast in one of the Harry Potter movies. Well, one or two missed the call, so I'm taking matters into my own hands...

Henry Ian Cusick could easily fall to the dark side--he's just so darn good at it. He, in all his scruffy glory, would make a good comrade for Fenrir Grayback, out coming the woods for the Potterites. [digital art credit: Quadrophobia at Deviant Art]

He could also pass for the next Minister of Magic, although that is not a job I'd wish on a friend right now.

Or finally, less evil and more "I don't care", he could be one of the centaurs, like Firenze, who roam the woods surrounding Hogwarts. [digital photo work: Mumsypower at Live Journal]

A Brit a Day [#283]

It was good to see Jason Isaacs back in HP 7.1 as Lucius Malfoy, however brief the performance. Lucius is looking a little worse for wear these days, but I'll never turn away a dark wizard with unbuttoned cuffs and a long jacket just because he has stubble.

A Brit a Day [#282]

This post is for Tuesday.
Given my mission statement, I should use sexier pictures of Daniel Radcliffe, but I am a sucker for sentimentality and nostalgia. Dan, or his people, sent me the photo shown above in response to my heart-felt letter endorsing his decision to star in 'Equus' a few years ago. Regarding the photo below of Dan and Rupert Grint shortly after they were cast in 'Harry Potter', all I can say is....we thought it was hard to let go of LOST. The demise of this ensemble is going to be shattering.

A Brit a Day [#281]

Outside of the spectacular ax murder of Paul, my favorite scenes in 'American Psycho' revolve around Christian Bale's character's desk. Here he is taunted by the quality of an associates business card.

A Brit a Day [#280]

I was thrilled to see Alan Rickman back in his Prof Snape groove for HP and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. His appearance is brief--everyone who isn't one of the Main Three has a limited performance--but as his race is ending, it's so exciting to see him in the chutes.

Did you notice that with his appearance in Half Blood Prince, the designers gave up on giving him the stringy hair of his description in the book? This clean, lean Snape is so much truer to the way Rickman is playing him.

A Brit a Day [#279]

Oops. I knew I was forgetting something yesterday. Let this post be for yesterday, Saturday.

I saw the midnight showing on opening day of HP and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. I loved it. It is bleak. As my husband says, the book is gray, so it's appropriate that the movie isn't so much a dark story as a chilling one. It is also tinged with sadness that it is an end of an era.

This lady, Emma Watson, has outdone herself in it.

A gorgeous headshot of Henry Ian Cusick from a few years back.

A Brit a Day [#276]

A lovely and interesting portrait of Jason Isaacs, probably taken during promotional photos for 'Friends with Money'.

A Brit a Day [#275]

Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter. Probably one of the last portraits of this kind. I'll be at the midnight showing of "Deathly Hallows--Part 1" on opening day.

Not your Daddy's superhero.

A Brit a Day [#273]

Seems like we should refresh our bank of headshots this week--and we'll start with this one that has the added bonus of Alan Rickman's charming, sexy hands.

A Brit a Day [#272]

Forget about the boys today--my eyes are on that immoderately cute and short 'do on Emma Watson at the premiere of "HP & The Deathly Hallows--Part 1". You have to wonder if she's been dying to cut her hair that short for years.

A Brit a Day [#271]

Eddie Argos is [quite often] a man on a mission.

A Brit a Day [#270]

Most of my images of Henry Ian Cusick are screen caps from LOST, so it's a nice diversion to have one of his recent headshots in my post today. I don't know the photographer, but this photo, which appeared between the end of LOST and his guest appearance on L&O:SVU has a great sense of his anxious energy and excitement about the future.

A Brit a Day [#269]

The Killers, in another great photograph by Erik Weiss. The Killers aren't British, but at times they have wished they were.

A Brit a Day [#268]

This is my new favorite photo of Dan Radcliffe. I'm a huge fan of silk shirts paired with stubble.

A Brit a Day [#267]

Christian Bale in a photograph by Tom Howard.

I found this pic on christian-bale.org, and I must say they do an outstanding job of organizing thousands of images as well as crediting the photographers.

A Brit a Day [#266]

There's no theme this week, and little need for commentary, because these are just great photographs. We'll start the week as usual, with Alan Rickman, displaying his dancer's soul.

A Brit a Day [#265]

I have more information for you about the great photographer I was talking about yesterday. He is Erik Weiss from Berlin, Germany. Here is some more of his work--Art Brut, above, Arctic Monkeys, below.

And below, Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys.

A Brit a Day [#264]

Eddie Argos in a stunning photograph. I will make the effort to find the photographer's name and post it here. He [pretty sure it's a he] took the one of Eddie I posted last week, too.

A Brit a Day [#263]

From the end of season 4 on LOST--This is one of the first photos of Henry Ian Cusick as Desmond Hume that I tucked away in a file. It's all about the eyes. And there's nothing sexier than a man who can defuse a bomb.

A Brit a Day [#262]

It wasn't ready in time for Halloween--I found this picture last week, but didn't get around to posting it--Still, this has to be the costume of the decade for Jason Isaacs. The decade was the 1990's--Lord Felton from 'Dragonheart' [1996].

A Brit a Day [#261]

These photos of Dan Radcliffe that Esquire used to build their cover story are fascinating, startling even--and a bit creepy. Dan is a brilliant subject of still photography, as much of an actor there as he is before the movie cameras. Since I used the pic above in the Strange Google post last week, I'm giving us a little bonus below--Dan kissing a lucky, lucky fangirl. Great hair, Dan, btw.

A Brit a Day [#260]

There's no particular theme for the Brits this week, but I'm still pretty creeped out from Halloween. Mike Rowe spent a full hour on "Dirty Jobs" at a gourd farm/design studio/supplier of kitsch for QVC, and that put me right over the edge. Here's Christian Bale looking appropriately sinister in the grass on the morning after. The lawn isn't the only thing well-manicured in this picture.
